Smith to Miss Game vs. Spurs

Josh Smith will not be in uniform tonight when the Hawks tip-off against the Spurs, the team with the NBA’s best record. Smoove has been dealing with a sprained right knee for the better part of the last two months and the swelling has increased in recent days.

With Smith sidelined, the Hawks will use a starting lineup that features Hinrich, Johnson, Williams, Horford and Collins. The larger lineup should help Atlanta deal with the Spurs’ veteran frontcourt that features Antonio McDyess and Tim Duncan.

Smith’s absence could also mean increased minutes for Williams. That will be just fine for Coach Drew if Marvin can give the same kind of effort that he turned in the last time San Antonio visited the Highlight Factory.

Last season in March, Marvin led the Hawks to a thrilling 119-114 victory with a team-high 26 points and nine boards. Al Horford also had a monster game finishing with 22 points (including a facial over Duncan) and 18 rebounds.
