New beginnings

It’s a new day in Hawk town. Can you feel the change in the air (aside from the weather)? That is the feeling I got at Media Day and in training camp so far. Things are going to be different this season.

A new GM. A slew of new players. Most likely, at least as discussed by Hawks coach Larry Drew, a different style of play.

Day 2 of training camp saw the players really starting to get after it. The team is going through two-a-day practices right now (a staple of most training camps), and conditioning plays a big part in the early parts of camp, especially since the coaching staff has to ease so many new faces into the offensive and defensive systems that Drew and his staff want to install.

As Jeff Teague discussed with Hometeam today, the players are really going hard. And it makes sense, since so much is up for grabs right now. Roster spots. Starting spots. Lineup combinations. This is a deep, deep team, with a lot of guys who can do a lot of things, but how Coach Drew will implement all the weapons he has at his disposal is pretty much anyone’s guess at this point. Therefore, almost to a man, everyone out there has something to prove right now. It definitely makes for intense practices and healthy competition.

It’s going to be exciting. And we are happy to be back here at Hawks central to be bringing it all to you this season.

Stay tuned!
