Rooting Interests: The Race To Avoid 8th
One of the biggest things the Hawks want to do seeding-wise is avoid that eighth spot. Doing so means avoiding a first round matchup with the Miami Heat.
A big game in determining that eighth spot happens tonight when Portland visits Milwaukee to face the Bucks. Milwaukee is currently eighth in the East but is only 2.5 games behind the Chicago Bulls and Boston Celtics, who are both off tonight. The Bucks can trim the deficit to two with a win. Of course, Hawks fans would like to see not only a loss, but hopefully a long, tiring and grueling loss since Milwaukee plays Atlanta in Philips Arena tomorrow night.
Meanwhile, the Orlando Magic visit Indiana for what should be a win for the Pacers. Stranger things have happened this season, but Orlando is 18-49. With the Pacers in good position to get a first round series at home, the Hawks are probably going to have more luck catching the Brooklyn Nets or holding off the Bulls and Celtics. But again, stranger things have happened. I’ll be rooting for Orlando.
Regardless of tonight’s results, the Hawks will be in the #5 spot going into tomorrow’s critical game with the Bucks.
