Scoreboard Watching: Hawks Get Win, Help From Hornets
The New Orleans Hornets made Hawks fans very happy on Wednesday night.
The Hornets beat the Boston Celtics 87-86 on an Anthony Davis tip-in with .3 seconds left, dropping Boston to 1.5 games behind the Hawks in the standings. The loss keeps Boston in the seventh spot, a half game behind the idle Chicago Bulls and just two up on the eighth place Milwaukee Bucks.
The Bucks would have pulled within a game of Boston, but the Hawks used a 29-16 third quarter to put some separation between them and Milwaukee and won 98-90. It was a huge win for the Hawks, who are fighting for home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs.
Unfortunately Atlanta wasn’t able to pick up any ground on either Big Apple team. The Brooklyn Nets notched an impressive 113-96 win in Dallas, while the New York Knicks disposed of Orlando.
Biggest winner: Nets
Brooklyn is on an eight-game road trip and has now started 2-0. Last night’s win in Dallas was huge, and if the Nets can come home from the trip and still be in fourth, they’ll be in good shape in the final two weeks.
Biggest loser: Celtics
Losing to New Orleans is bad, especially when all the teams ahead of them won. They have two more on the mini three-game road trip.
