San Antonio Spurs v Atlanta Hawks

The first home game Mike Budenholzer will ever coach in the NBA will be against the team he spent assisting for 19 years.

The Hawks announced the home portion of their preseason schedule Wednesday, and it opens with an Oct. 17 game against the defending Western Conference champion San Antonio Spurs.  This will mark Coach Bud’s first game against his old team and friend Gregg Popovich.  It’s certainly an intriguing way to start the season.

The schedule doesn’t get easier.  Home games against Memphis on Oct. 20 and Indiana on Oct. 22 round out the home portion.  Both teams lost in the conference finals a season ago.  The Pacers will be making their first visit to Philips since ending Atlanta’s season a year ago in Game 6 of their first round series.

The road schedule will be released once it is finalized.

While the preseason is typically a time to see the backups play and find out who will be on the final roster, it will serve especially important for the Hawks as Coach Bud works with a new coaching staff and revamped group of players to implement his system.  In particular, it’ll be interesting to watch some of the young guys such as Dennis Schröder, Shelvin Mack, Gustavo Ayón and Mike Scott throughout October.

Individual game tickets will go on sale at a later date, but fans can attend the preseason games by becoming a member of the Hawks.

It does not really matter since preseason games mean nothing at all.
