Antić, Macedonia Cruise By Germany
Macedonia didn’t need any Pero Antić heroics today. One day after beating Greece on a last-second bucket by the future Atlanta Hawk, Macedonia improved to 2-0 in the Basketball SuperCup with a convincing 81-67 win over host Germany in Neu-Ulm.
Antić finished with 11 points, six rebounds and three assists for Macedonia, which improves to 2-0 in SuperCup play. Macedonia was down by two after the first quarter and led by only two at halftime but used a strong second half to break the game open. They’ll play Bosnia-Herzegovina in the final game of the round-robin friendly tomorrow in preparation for the European Championships, which start Sept. 4.
“Our goal is to expect a medal,” Antić said of the team’s aspirations for the European Championships after yesterday’s win.
Bosnia-Herzegovina beat Germany 73-62 Friday and plays Greece later today. If they beat the Greeks, it’ll be two 2-0 teams battling on the event’s final day.
Dennis Schröder, the German point guard who the Hawks drafted with the 17th overall pick this year, did not play for Germany today and is not on the roster for the EuroBasket tournament.
Antić’s go-ahead shot with 10 seconds left gave Macedonia the upset win over Greece yesterday. After today’s win, the team tweeted:
