New Hawk Pero Antić fouled out of Macedonia’s EuroBasket-opening game against Montenegro with 10 seconds left Wednesday, and the Macedonians missed two chances to win in the closing seconds before falling 81-80.

Antić scored eight points, pulled down six rebounds and dished out four assists in the loss.

Six teams from the 24-team EuroBasket field will qualify for next year’s FIBA World Cup in Spain.  Each team plays the five other teams in its group in the first round.  The top three from each of the four groups advance to round two.

Macedonia will play Lithuania tomorrow evening in Slovenia.

Gustavo Ayón led Mexico into the second round of the FIBA Americas tournament.  They will play Canada tomorrow.

Unfortunately referees prevented Macedonia to beat Montenegro. In the last Macedonian attack and last shot, Montenegrin player pulled down the net of the basket and the ball slipped away. This is huge scandal for FIBA Europe as they denied Macedonian appeal. In NBA this is not a case.
