New Orleans Hornets v Atlanta Hawks

We are counting down the days until the Hawks’ season-opener in Dallas by giving you 50 things to be excited about this year.  With 49 days left, today’s is…

The First Pelicans’ Visit

For many years, the Hawks were the only “bird” in the NBA.  Now we have company.

New Orleans officially switched their name to the Pelicans for the 2013-14 season.  New Orleans will make its first and only visit to Philips Arena on March 21.  We’ll see the Pelicans two other times – on Oct. 13 in a preseason game in Biloxi, Miss. and again Feb. 5 in New Orleans.  But the March 21 meeting marks the first time a bird has visited Philips Arena.

Several questions loom…

- Which team will win the Battle of the Birds?
- Will Harry The Hawk get jealous or aggressive?
- Will New Orleans stick with the cartoon uniforms they wore in celebration of Mardi Gras when they played in Atlanta last season?

Time will tell.  What we do know is New Orleans had a good offseason, trading for All-Star Jrue Holiday on draft night and acquiring Tyreke Evans.  For now though, it’s yet another reason to be excited for Hawks basketball.

We also want your input.  What are you most excited about this upcoming season.  Leave a comment below to let us know, and we may feature your idea in our countdown!
