J-Smoove Stars in New Adidas Commercial

Josh Smith lets you know why he got his nickname in his latest Adidas commercial where he shows off some of his dance moves and his playful personality.

The commercial, which was filmed this past offseason at a studio in L.A., is part of Adidas’ “It’s on Me for We” series. It is the latest tweak to their long-running Brotherhood campaign. “While the focus is still on Brotherhood, it’s a challenge to the individual to step up and be faster or stronger in order to improve the team,” said Ryan Morlan, head of global communication for adidas basketball.

Smith displays the lighter side of his personality and was given more acting responsibilities than any of the other players used in the series. “It was cool, it was a new experience,” Smith said. “They just kinda gave me the plot and the things they wanted me to do a little bit and I kinda free-styled it from there.”

This is the first time Smith has been the featured player in a full length Adidas commercial.

Preseason Off To A Good Start

A lot to like about last night’s 108-102 preseason-opening win over the New Orleans Hornets. The starters played well together, there were plenty of minutes for the reserves, and no one got hurt – that’s about as good as it gets for an exhibition.

In particular, I liked a few things:

- I liked the chemistry I saw developing between Jamal Crawford and Zaza Pachulia. Jamal continues to make his presence felt on offense with his passing as well as his scoring (certainly the case last night as he was 0-4 from the field), and Zaza could be a big-time recipient of that as part of the team’s second unit.

- Jeff Teague attacked the paint the same way he has been in practice, getting to the line 8 times. The Hawks teams of recent vintage haven’t been big free-throw shooting teams, so adding someone who will hopefully bring that to the table will give the Hawks an additional weapon to their offensive arsenal.

- Did you see that alley-oop from Joe Johnson to Josh Smith? Man I missed that.

All in all, a terrific start to the preseason.

Hawks Media Day Kicks Off 2009-10 Season

The offseason is over. Hooray!

Monday the Hawks held their first official event of the 2009-10 season by hosting the team’s annual media day at Philips Arena. A plethora of TV, radio, and print outlets were on hand to get their first glimpse of the new squad and take their first opportunity to get their take on the season yet to come.

Hawks.com was on the scene to capture the whole multimedia experience, some of which we’ll be posting over the course of the next few weeks as we begin the countdown towards opening night, and some of it we’ll post now. Here you go!

Top Ten Plays Of 2008-09

File this under the category of “fun things I get to do with my job”:

The NBA video people were nice enough to put together highlight videos for each team counting down their top plays from last season; all we had to do was give them our Top Ten. So myself and Hawks PR-man extraordinaire Jon Steinberg sat around one morning last week and racked our brains to come up with our best plays from last year, and below is what we came up with.
