Sunday Practice Report (4/17/11)
On the heels of last night’s 103-93 win in Game 1, the Hawks held a very light workout and film session today at the Amway Center in Orlando.
Part of what makes the Playoffs so different from the regular season is the scheduling. There are no back-to-backs in the playoffs and in the first round there are two off days in separating each of the first three games. Add in the fact that the teams have already combed through an elaborate scouting report prior to Game 1 and the mental challenges of focus and motivation are increased.
It is easy to assume that Atlanta would be itching to get back on the court after the impressive performance last night, but when talking to the players before practice they seemed to understand the value of the days off.
“We could actually use the rest,” commented Joe Johnson. “We got a few guys that are banged up. We will look at the tape and see what we could have done better.”
“We’d like to,” Jamal said when asked if he would rather get right back on the court. “But that’s the way it is. I think that it gives both teams time to make adjustments. We had a 16, 18 point lead and let it get down to eight. We have to continue to work, it’s still a work in progress.”
