Here are the latest ‘Notes & Quotes’ as the Hawks prepare for tonight’s Game 5 at the United Center:

  • Sunday’s win increased Atlanta’s win total to six this postseason, only the 8th time in franchise history that they have reached that number. It is only the second time the ATLANTA Hawks have reached that number of playoffs wins, with the other coming in 1988 when ‘Nique and the Hawks pushed Bird and the Celtics to seven games in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
  • This is the 16th time the Hawks have been 2-2 in a series since the franchise moved to Atlanta. They are 8-7 in Game 5’s in that situation and have also gone on to win eight of those series.
  • When they step onto the court tonight in Game 5 Joe Johnson and Josh Smith will move into sixth place on the Atlanta Hawks’ list of postseason games played (40). Zaza (39), Al (38) and Marvin (35) are not far behind.
  • Other categories where current Hawks are climbing the Atlanta-era playoff rankings are total points (Joe – 6th), rebounds (Al – 6th, Josh – 7th), assists (Joe – 4th), field goals (Joe – 4th), and free throws (Josh – 4th).

– Joe Johnson
I think at this point of the season it’s more mind over matter, it’s all mental. Everybody’s banged up, everybody’s tired, but you find that will to take it to the next level.

I know in order for us to be successful as a team I need to score the basketball. Like I said, I am gonna try to be as aggressive as possible.

– Jamal Crawford
We know each other. We’ve played each other seven times now. At this point of the season it’s just a matter of will and who can be true to themselves the most.

Yeah, run at the times that we’re almost sure we can get a basket. We have to use our athleticism. That’s who we are. When we can get down the court and get easy baskets, that’s when we are at our best. We will run when we can, but if not, we have to make sure we get a good shot every time down.

– Al Horford
I think both times we played well here. I think just in Game 2 we didn’t shoot the ball well, they played great defense. It’s gonna take great focus from us… it’s gotta be for 48 minutes.
