Scoreboard Watching: Bucks Keep Pressure on Hawks With Win
The race to avoid eighth got a bit tighter Tuesday night.
In an otherwise quiet night of NBA action as it relates to the Eastern Conference playoff race, the Milwaukee Bucks protected their home court against the Portland Trail Blazers, winning 102-95 behind 45 points from Brandon Jennings and Monta Ellis. Milwaukee is now just 2.5 games behind the Hawks and have pulled within two of the Chicago Bulls and Boston Celtics, who were both idle on Tuesday. The Bucks are in Atlanta tonight. A win for Milwaukee would drop the Hawks to within a game in the loss column of being in the dreaded eighth spot, but a Hawks victory would provide some comfortable breathing room with only four weeks left in the regular season.
The Indiana Pacers took care of business against the Orlando Magic. The Magic were held to just 29 first half points as the Pacers extended their lead to 4.5 over the Hawks and lead the New York Knicks by 1.5 games for second in the East.
Biggest winner: Bucks
They need to keep winning to avoid playing the Miami Heat first. Losing a winnable game like last night’s would have been devastating.
Biggest loser: Celtics
They play six of their next eight on the road, including a three-game trip that starts tonight. Separation from Milwaukee would have been a good start. Instead they’re fighting to hold onto that #7 spot and are carrying around a hobbling Kevin Garnett.
