Mike Muscala Signs With Spanish Team
Mike Muscala tweeted Wednesday night that he had signed with Blusens Monbus Obradoiro, meaning he won’t be a part of the Hawks’ roster this fall.
Blusens Monbus Obradoiro is a CAB team in Spain. Muscala, Atlanta’s second round draft pick this year, will get a chance to work on his game overseas with regular playing time. The Hawks will retain his rights, so he could sign with the team next year.
The Hawks haven’t signed him, so his only other choice would have been to play in the D-League.
The Hawks have Al Horford, Paul Millsap, Elton Brand, Pero Antić, Mike Scott and Gustavo Ayón all competing for frontcourt minutes this season. First-round draft pick Lucas Nogueira hasn’t been signed, but he could also be in the discussion depending on what President of Basketball Operations/General Manager Danny Ferry decides to do.
“This is a great opportunity for Mike to play for a quality program in a strong league,” Ferry said. “We are excited to closely monitor his growth as he further prepares himself for the NBA game.”
Muscala played well in the NBA Summer League. He showed that he has a nice outside shot and is a smart player. In 18 minutes of action per game, he scored 5.8 points and pulled down 5.2 rebounds.
