Hawks first round draft pick Lucas Nogueira will play another season with Asefa Estudiantes Madrid to continue his development.

Atlanta has acknowledged the move with this statement from President of Basketball Operations/General Manager Danny Ferry:

“We are very encouraged by what we’ve seen from Lucas this summer. Going back to Estudiantes will allow him to continue to develop while also playing meaningful minutes against very good competition. We will closely monitor his progress as he works towards his goals as a basketball player.”

The Hawks added Paul Millsap, Elton Brand, Pero Antić and Gustavo Ayón to a frontcourt that already included Al Horford and Mike Scott this offseason.  Nogueira and fellow draft pick Mike Muscala will both be playing in Spain this season while the Hawks retain their rights, meaning Atlanta can invite either or both to join the roster next season.

Nogueira and Muscala both have potential, as they showed in the Las Vegas Summer League, but both need to get stronger.  Getting regular minutes overseas should help them develop both on and off the court.

What do you think of the move, Hawks fans?
