Macedonia is still alive in EuroBasket 2013, thanks in large part to Pero Antić’s 16-points, 14-rebound performance in an 89-75 win over previously unbeaten Serbia.

Antić struggled from three but was able to get most of his inside shots to fall and added five free throws.  Macedonia, which lost two close games to open the FIBA World Cup qualifying tournament, is right back in the hunt, just one point behind first place in their group with two games left to play.  They’ll play Bosnia-Herzegovina, whom they beat two weeks ago at the SuperCup in Germany, on Sunday.

In Venezuela, Gustavo Ayón came up big in an important game for Mexico in the FIBA Americas Championship.  Ayón led the team with 17 points on 8-12 shooting en route to an 87-73 win over Uruguay.  The win keeps Mexico in the top half of the second round, which is where they’ll need to stay to qualify for Spain.

Mexico continues play tomorrow against Jamaica.
