New Hawk Gustavo Ayón scored 24 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to help Mexico’s Cinderella story continue at the FIBA Americas Championship.

Mexico beat Argentina 76-70 to advance to the championship game and will play Puerto Rico Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET.

Ayón also added three assists for the Mexican team, which has already qualified for next year’s World Cup in Spain after originally not being part of the Americas qualifying tournament.  They replaced Panama after Panama was suspended.

Ayón’s 24 points is the most he’s had in a game in the tournament.  He shot 9/18 from the field and 6/9 from the free throw line to help Mexico avenge a 20-point loss to Argentina earlier in the tournament.
