32 Days Until the Atlanta Hawks’ Season
We are counting down the days until the Hawks’ season-opener in Dallas by giving you 50 things to be excited about this year. With 32 days left, today’s fan-submitted reason is…
Jordan Valdez commented on the blog to tell us he is excited to see new Hawk Gustavo Ayón in action this season. Valdez pointed out that Ayón had a superb FIBA Americas performance (which he did – he won MVP and led Mexico to its first gold medal in 35 years). He also pointed out how exciting it is to have the NBA’s only active Mexican-born player playing on his favorite team (Thanks Jordan, go Hawks!).
As fellow writer Micah Hart touched on yesterday in the countdown, Ayón is part of a very flavorful and diverse roster. In fact, this year’s Hawks roster is the most “International” in franchise history, with four of the 14 players born outside the U.S. We’ve already felt the International fan base’s support on social media this offseason, and we’re excited to see new faces in the seats at Philips Arena to support the new Hawks.
Ayón will be entering his third NBA season and will be looking to establish himself here in Atlanta after playing for three teams in his first two years. He’ll be battling a crowded frontcourt for minutes, but there’s no reason to think he won’t see playing time if he plays like he did in Venezuela this summer.
This idea was submitted by Jordan. We also want your input. What are you most excited about this upcoming season. Leave a comment below to let us know, and we may feature your idea in our countdown!
