Coach Bud Talks Popovich

San Antonio should again be in the conversation with the Western Conference favorites this season, returning the trio of Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili and Tim Duncan, along with Kawhi Leonard and Tiago Splitter.  The horses have once again been carrying the weight through the preseason, led by hot shooting (62 percent) from Ginobili, who is averaging 12.5 points through three games.  Head coach Gregg Popovich has been conservative with playing time.  Among the starters, only Splitter has played in all three of their games so far.

Coach Bud knows San Antonio’s system, but figuring out who is going to play is always anyone’s guess in the preseason.  Former St. Mary’s guard Patty Mills, entering his third season with the team, is having a nice preseason, and San Antonio’s minutes leader is power forward Jeff Ayres.  The point – Don’t put too much stock into the scoreboard right now.

As Bud said on Monday, the focus will continue to be on his team executing the offense, playing hard and developing chemistry as a group.

It’s the first preseason game at Philips Arena, and the guys said they are excited to be home after three road games to start the campaign.
