Macedonia – Go crazy!

Pero Antic has been selected to the player pool for the Rising Stars Challenge, the NBA’s game that features the nine best rookies and nine best sophomores from the season’s first half.

The game is part of All-Star Weekend Feb. 14-16 in New Orleans.

Antic wouldn’t have been in the conversation a month ago, but Al Horford’s injury has opened up playing time for the 6’11” Macedonian center, who has been a regular starter all of January.  In eight starts this month, he leads all rookies in rebounds and threes made per game, and is fourth in scoring.

And how about a shoutout to Mike Scott as well.  He didn’t make the field, but that’s more because of the strong sophomore class that includes Damian Lillard, Anthony Davis, Andre Drummond and Harrison Barnes, among others.  His numbers, especially of late, warranted consideration, and it was probably tough for assistant coaches around the league to leave him out.

He’s having an outstanding sophomore season and is arguably Atlanta’s most improved player from last year.

The teams are yet to be determined, as Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley will conduct their draft on Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. on TNT.

Antic tweeted his appreciation for being named to the pool shortly after it was announced:
