Hawks sign Dexter Pittman to 10-Day Contract; Waive Jared Cunningham
Pittman played on the NBA title winning 2011-12 Miami Heat as well as a brief stint with the Grizzlies last season and will be available to play against the Knicks, as the Hawks will need his services in the frontcourt with the Hawks already without Al Horford, Pero Antic, and Gustavo Ayon and now another blow as Paul Millsap is out for at least one game with a knee contusion and his status for the next few games is uncertain as he will be re-evaluated.
Pittman — at 6-foot-11, 285 pounds — provides the Hawks with size at center that they lack due to injuries. Pittman has played 344 career NBA minutes — 304 for the Heat in 2011-12 — and has scored 106 career points and pulled down 71 rebounds. Most recently, Pittman has been playing for the Austin Toros in the NBA D-League, where he has averaged 9.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game on 53.8% shooting in 17.5 minutes per game.
